While my 2005 Silverado LS 1500 is in "cruise control" between 75-80 mph and I begin going up a small hill, the engine downshifts & the engine runs wild... my tach had been erratic as well and now my "tach" quit working altogether....lately I tried the cruise control at 70-74 and it works fine....does the tachometer have anything to do with the problem??

It's the fact that hardly anywhere has that kind of speed limit, slow down...
What kind of answer is this??? If you don't know just say so....
Check the Interstate speed limits of some of the Western States...
Ok let me rephrase what I said, most cruise controls cut out at 75-80 because very very few areas have a speed limit above that and if the cruise control was capable of going higher someone could easily say I crashed going 120 because my cruise control malfunctioned. It's a safety feature, if you're going that fast the driver should be in control of the vehicle.
