Why won't my truck shift into over drive

Might be the linkage.

Does the truck have tow haul? Also could be the tcc switch. The only person who would think it was the linkage is the same person who needs help adding oil at the gas station. If it was the linkage then the truck wouldn't go into any of the other spots properly. N would be overdrive R would be neutral and P would be reverse and the truck wouldn't have park rolling down any slight grade it was parked on.

How do you know it's not shifting into overdrive? Or, what is the vehicle doing to make you suspect this?

Your vehicle has a 4 speed transmission. After 3 shifts, you would be in 4th gear, which is overdrive.

My truck is doing the same thing on the highway. However after twenty mins of driving it will final go into fourth gear. Sometimes it kicks in and out of fourth gear too. geezz expensive repairs.

On my 2008 chevy silverado1500 1,2,3rd skips and then gets out of 3rd but the 4 rpm rides high won't shift out

Unless the ATF level is really low you probably need a new transmission. Have a transmission specialist check it out.

I have a 2004 gmc 4 wheel drive 2500 that has fuse box issues that effects shifts starting and other issues is there a fix for this

I would suspect the input speed sensor is faulty. Mine is doing the same thing and throws a misfire code. Will be changing the input speed sensor tomorrow.

Makeitlast did that fix yours?? I have a 2004 2500hd 4x4. No codes on the transmission. Only has a misfire code. Will not shift into overdrive.

Keep reading just make sure you check the solenoids sometimes speedometer is connected to system car won't go into fourth without it as well as tow packages figure it out new guy

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and it hits when the car is cold when I put it in D and it only does it once and the overdrive won't engage and I don't have any codes in the transmission.

My son has a 2000 2500 diesel truck. Just literally got it back last monday with the transmission completely rebuilt. Now it wont shift into over drive and he replaced the speedometer sensor and gauge cluster and his speedometer is still stuck and tack still wont work. Any clues??? We spend over $4000.00 . He is 16 yrs old and he works all the time to try and get this fixed. His 1st vehicle. Please help with suggestions.. Frustrated mom!! Tara Sue M.
