My 2002 Silverado 2500 HD, 8.1 dies out at times while driving. I have to lock and unlock the doors with the remote to get truck to re-start. Sometimes it seems to die when I hit the brakes. Any ideas of what the problem might be. Thanks for your time.

Sprinter I was surprised that this wasn't a reoccurring problem with other owners. I couldn't find any similar problems to try and learn from. I have to guess computer issues. I really don't see anyway around it given the amount of systems that are involved. You need a diagnostic on the Silverado's computer. This sounds like a visit to your dealer to me. Good luck!

my 02 2500hd 8.1 would die out after it would warm up, and only restart after a couple minutes of cranking! it was the crank angle sensor!

Hello I have worked my brain trying to figure this problem out. I'll have to get back to you on the result but i'm pretty sure it will be solved after this repair. I have an 02 silverado 2500hd 8.1 and it to like's to just die out while driving, no warning just a battery light. Um I checked for codes got 2 can't remember the exact ones but i'll find out. have been on god knows how many chat rooms and seems the crank position sensor is the problem. My dad seems to think it's related to the remote but it shuts off and after like 8 tries it starts back up. I'm buying and installing the part this weekend I'll let you know the out come.

if you type this problem up online a dozen people said it was the crank position sensor. I'm gonna try it cause i got the same problem I'll let you know if it works:)

I have an 2002 hd 8.1 also and it did the exact same thing.I did the same thing with the remote. it is the crankshaft sensor. GM had alot of problems with the crankshaft sensor. located on the back of the block.

I know this is an old post, but there is a Crankshaft Position Sensor recall for the 2001 8.1L trucks. This malfunction causes the engine to randomly shut down with out warning, and also fail to start at all after the sensor has completely failed. Chevy will fix this for free on the 2001's....you should check for other years, too!!

I had the same problems with my 2002 2500 hd 6.0 replaced the crank shaft position sensor but still happened my buddy found that my PCM was corrode and was shorting out the sensors thats why the code came back the same . Hope this helps only reason my buddy the mechanic found this is because I'm recovering from surgery and left the truck there for two weeks so when he had time to fool with it he did . Hope this helps most can't be without their truck that long
