Is the transfer case gear or chain on a 2003 Chevy HD duramax with an Allison trans.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a leak on the tail shaft on the transmission, and have to remove the transfer case to repair the leak. I don't want any surprise when removing the case, due to the weight. I know I can handle a chain driven case by my self, but if it is gear driven I will need to get some help!

okay, this ain't a subaru....get it up in the air with a overhead jack to lower it...there are flanges to unbolt and u-joints to undo...so you're gonna take some time to do this~

Thanks for your reply, but I already have everything disconnected from the transfer case, I just was hoping someone would know if the case is gear driven, or chain driven. The gears would be 50 to 70 pounds heaver than the chain and I wanted to be "SAFE". Thanks again, but not the information I was looking for!
