Are clanking sounds coming from engine a sign the engine is shot and need replacing or is there anything else I could do to help without rebuilding engine ? Any help would be appreciative. Thank you.

no I'm not exactly sure but we did replace the oil pump and all the seals the main gaskets and replace the timing belt and the chain and it's like a knocking sound not exactly sure but the oil pressure still reading low
Tom has a very good point. The 6.0 and 8.1 big block(I'm assuming its not a duramax diesel) are both very rock solid engines.
Ouch, that's not good. Without tearing it back down you won't know what's causing the low oil pressure (that could be a bad sending unit-try screwing in a hand held gauge where the sending unit goes and see for sure if its got pressure or not) or the noise.
