2005 2500HD air conditioner speed

sounds like a "short" or the unit (AC) is not getting the signal. I haven't heard of this before, normally you lose the lower speeds first.
Might need a new switch you can get them and easily replace them
On GM's, the most common cause of a lost HVAC fan speed is the blower motor resistor. Replace that, and it should work fine. If it goes bad again, the blower motor is pulling too many amps, and that would need to be replaced as well.

Hey I just got a letter from Chevrolet addressing this issue. The HVAC system needs to be serviced at the dealer and it should be of no charge to you. They will ask for the last 8 digits of your VIN number and see if you qualify for the free service. If you paid anything to get that problem fixed yourself you may also be eligible for reimbursement. Unfortunately for my husband he had the speed control fixed at about 100.00 but the air conditioning unit on the drivers side blows hot hair. Sounds like the climate control needs serviced and Singh Chevrolet told me it would be $115.00 just for a diagnosis. I told them I'll save the money since I already know the problem and take it somewhere else where I won't be charged for an unecessary diagnosis. Hope that helps... I have same problem in my 05 silverado when on 5 it stops working so i keep it at 4 now even setting 4 started dowing this.. What was the fix???
I've got an 05 silverado as well and the blower stopped working on 1 and 2 back in 2011. I got a letter to bring it in to have the resistor replaced for free. Did that and it was fine until a couple weeks ago when 1 thru 4 stopped working. This time I had to pay to have the resistor replaced again because my truck is over 10 years old and has 184000 on it. I guess the new resistor back in 2011 wasn't a permanent fix! Not happy!
