Does a Geo Tracker and a Chevy Tracker use the same alternator? And do the pulleys have different amount of ribs?

We replaced the alternator, and the belt began to tear. We are not sure what caused it if we didn't properly put the belt back on or ribs on the pulley don't match up with the rest of the vechile
