Question type: Maintenance & Repair

yesterday i replaced a tension pully and belt to stop the screeching noise
and it worked. this morning i started the car and it started screeching again,
even louder. well as i was driving off it was acting like it was wanting to die
(turn off). i manage to keep it running with a little press on the excel. i turn
the car off at gas station and when started the car to leave, it was acting as if
i was gently pressing the excel (also still screeching) it was like driving on its
own. why? what does this mean? why is it screeching again? i thought i had
just fixed it by replacing a new tension pully and a new belt. errrrrrr PLEASE i
need someones help?

The belt was broken right ? There maybe a pulley that is seized or bearing worn out , Was the new belt routed correctly ?

Something is locked up, like the alternator, water pump, air conditioning compressor, or power steering pump. Open the hood and start the engine. See which pulley is not turning. That'll be the problem. Hope that helps! Jim

Js08016, I have actually looked it up on YouTube and you are right there are three possible pulleys that could be making the noise the water pump pulley the air conditioning compressor or the power steering pulley but they are all turning I'm just not understanding which one is bad I do see the belt off to the side a little bit when it's running but it's only doing that to one of them and I don't know which pully it is. I wish there was a way I could show you because I had taken a small video clip of it

But yes when the noise started to begin we had replaced a pully and a new belt ( witch the belt was in good condition) and all day it didn't make that noise anymore until the next morning we had thought it was fixed lol but it started squelching really bad again and now it's at the point where when I'm at a stop sign or when I press on the breaks a little bit the car acts as if it's wants to die . that was about almost 2 weeks ago well now as of today the 1st of October it dies when I stop. so, I have to keep my foot on the gas at the same time as the break when I'm at a stoplight to not have it die. Well, somebody had told me that it needs a water pump pulley and a new water pump. but something's telling me that that's not what it is. I'm wanting to believe it is idler pully. I don't know crap about cars, but it just makes sense. an idler is like something that keeps the flow going to make something go, my car is acting as if something is preventing it to let that flow take place. a pully that goes bad makes that screeching noise and that's what my car is doing. so therefore, it seems like that's what it might be. and I forgot to mention that it does have a new alternator on there. but whatever I guess I'll waste the money and get it done lol

You can also remove the serpentine belt and turn the pulleys by hand. They should all spin freely. Except for the big pulley at the bottom center of the engine. A little resistance is normal but if any are difficult to turn, that's the culprit. Remember to have the engine and ignition off when doing this. Safety first!! Hope that helps! Jim
