How to fix 2002 Ford Escape 4x4 slipping

Asked by BryanWatson Sep 14, 2015 at 10:38 PM about the 2002 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It shifts thru all gears for the first few minutes. Once car is warm it does not shift into any gear including reverse. If you turn the car off then back on it will work in all gears for a few minutes then return to the no gears. I changed the fluid which helped but the problem still exists. This seems to be a pump or electric problem. Any suggestions??

Sounds like a problem with the transmission valve body electronics.

I have not changed the Filter but did add the lucas what is strange is that during the period that the trans is not shifting when I check the fluid level it is high but when it is working the fluid shows the correct level.
