The only way to drain is take the bolts out of the cover on back (13mm), take a hammer and thin chisel and peck the cover off. Clean the cover and rear end, put a thick layer of black permatex sealer on the cover and mate it back up to the rear end, install the bolts. To fill there is a plug that is the size of a 3/8" extension on left side front of rear end. Take it out and put fluid in until you can touch it with your finger inside the hole re install plug. 3qts of 75w-140w rear end grease.

JohnDoak1212 answered about a second ago As above by tuff4x4 is good, BUT not "rear end grease" SHOULD be OIL.- rear differential 75- 140W Synthetic OIL or regular 80-90W OIL as specified in the manual or for your particular axle. Grease boxes went out during the depression or earlier ! Also- reinstalling a new factory gasket (under $10) together with some gasket sealant is both recommended and perhaps better than gooey squirt on stuff, you HOPE won't flow out. In wrong circumstances (like ours)- some dude did use a black sealer; you can see it protruding all around, BUT our '96 Ranger dif was also leaking a 5" thick puddle in a few hours!
anyone known a way too get too the front differential too check the fluid in it on a 1999 ford ranger 4wheel drive without taking the hole front end apart
