Changing u-joints in the rear drive shaft of a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid.  Why do I need to use new CV bolts and washers and new u-joint bolts and straps?  I do not have new ones and am ready to reinstall.

It will not hurt to use the old one,s,as long as they are not stripped out.

I didn't change mine either, nor did I replace the center bearing, since both were fine. I just pressed in new u- joints, greased them, and put everything back together. Worked like a charm.
