Unable to get into 2004 Expedition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,

All of a sudden my key fob wouldn’t unlock the Expedition, so I tried the
physical key, and that won’t work either. The car was working fine. I can’t even
check the battery because I can’t get in to release the hood.

I tried putting WD40 on my key and getting the inside of the lock lubed up, that
didn’t help.

Is there some secret about the Expedition that would stop the physical key
from working?

Thanks for any help!

Have you tried all the doors and the rear hatch? It sounds like a dead battery. If you have AAA they have a lock out service. On some newer vehicles the lock mechanism is electrical and even with the key the latch won't respond because the battery is dead. Jim

Thanks Jim, that must be it. Seems like it kind of defeats the purpose of the physical key though. I’ll call AAA.
