Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While trying to remove number 8 spark plug the plug and the threaded piece that holds
the plug in engine are all turning together. Is there anyway to remove plug without
removing the threaded piece with it?

The threaded piece on the bottom is the base. It is supposed to be connected to the insulator which is the center white piece. It all comes out as one unit. Take a look at a new plug out of the box.

I assume this has a 4.6L then? This is a very common problem. Go to MustangForums.com and search sparkpulg broken or something like that. There is a tool you can rent/buy to get the plug out.

its a 5.4 no 4.6 in that year. the spark plug broke it happens all the time, the 3v motor plugs suck there is a special tool to remove them that you screw into the hole and it pushes the porcelain down and breaks the ground strap then you use the other part of the tool that cuts threads into the bottom metal piece and stays and you extract it out. you need the tool to do it correctly and not damage the threads in the cylinder head.

There is an issue with the expeditions and the plugs breaking when you try to remove them. There was a "recall" of sorts where Ford would reimburse money if the cost to replace was greater than $40 a plug (due to plug breaking while removing) Not sure how long that "deal" was for but two of my plugs break while trying to replace them.
