2002 Explorer XLT 2 questions: 1 - Dashboard display for mileage, temp, and compass so dim can't be read in daylight. 2 - Passenger A/C vent air not as cold as others?

I take it the dash display is digital. Does it respond, in brightness at all, when the knob is turned. If not, first remove the switch and check for proper output when the know is turned. If it is OK, the cluster may have to be replaced or rebuilt as a unit. One AC vent not producing enough air is probably a problem with the blend door. If you switch from cold to hot, do you hear a clicking noise? If so, the actuator is going out.
Thank you for your information. I believe the only digital display is the mileage, temp and compass section, but I will check it again to be sure. What is the proper output for the knob? Must the dash be removed to do so? I will also check for the clicking noise mentioned.
The knob which controls the brightness of the dashboard display works on the same principle as a dimmer switch in your residence. It is a variable resistance switch, meaning as it is turned, voltage is either increased or decreased to the bulb. If some portions of the dash get brighter when turned, the problem is probably burnt out bulbs behind the display. In that event the instrument cluster will have to be removed.
