All my heat and Ac is coming out of defrost vents.

Asked by Paul Sep 12, 2018 at 05:44 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I pulled the glove box out and found the vacuum actuator. I pulled the red vacuum hose of the back. No vacuum at all. I can pull the rod from inside the actuator and it moves the air from defrost to the other vents. I am backtracking the vacuum hoses. Where does the vacuum originate from on the engine on a 4.0 Ford Explorer and is there a vacuum reservoir?

1 Answer

Trace the vacuum lines. One may have rotted off. In my F150 the vacuum reservoir is part of the battery box and you have to remove the battery to get to it. The line had rotted off on mine.
