engine remove and re install

I hav a 6 cly engine and want more power for towing. Is it possible to swap the
6 for the 8 cyl engine or is my transmission specific to the 6 cly engine? i ask
because i just recently purchased a new tranny for over 5000$

The cost and trouble would be far greater than the truck is worth. You would be far better off selling yours and buying a V8 Explorer.
