2006 Ford Explorer...4.6 litre engine...class I/II hitch versus III/IV hitch

Attached methods, load distribution, size and configuration of the ball. Check your owner's manual for the type and load ranges for the different hitches. I've owned explorers since 96, they are not designed for high load towing capability. Places like U-Haul will not even rent you a trailer if you are going to hook it up to an explorer.

Understand the U-Haul point...I am asking about the difference in the equipment package on the vehicle. There are two tow limits...approx 3M and 7M listed for the 4.6 and one chart showed the rear axle ratio as 3.55 for both of these tow limits. I am having a heck of a tie trying to learn what the differences are. I had assumed there was tranmission oil cooler on both and possibly a different ratio. I am not planning to tow a heavy trailer, but otherwise find this SUV perfect.

The limits should be posted on the sticker on the drivers side door. The same sticker where the tire pressure is located. The sticker references the limits with the equipment installed on the vehicle when it was manufacturered. Hope it helps.
