Asked by Tara Jun 10, 2017 at 03:36 PM about the 2006 Ford Explorer XLS V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving down the road and all of a sudden the
steering wheel completely locked up so I stopped
out car in park. Them once I put in park I could not
take it out of park and steering wheel still went
move. Got truck towed now the truck won't even

Sounds like the engine died. Without more information I can't say why. Is the CEL on?

Does the engine spin when the key is turned. Make sure the battery has a charge. My 2004 developed a dead battery one morning. Since I was nosed in on a single car driveway I decided to push it back so I could jump it off. The car would not come out park. Learned if the battery is completely dead or at a low enough discharge it will not come out of park.
