2006 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We had bought it about march or april had
to have the front tensioner put in it and now
it is running about 750-1000 rpms when its
parked. It also sounds like something is
jumping or jerking every so often. Could it
be the rear tensioner?

I think it's more likely to be your A/C pump or things like that wich will change your rpms. I think it's nothing harmfull.

don't have the specs for the 2006 V6 but I suspect they are close to my 2003 Explorer V6, which is 500-600 rpms with engine at operating temp and ac off. Dashboard tacs or very inaccurate, but I take it you can tell the difference by ear and feel. Check for codes first, some do not always set off the idiot light on the dash. Is the jump or jerk a "miss" in the firing? Tensioner problems often display themselves with a sound which resembles a valve or lifter knock in older model engines. Normally constant and the rate of knock increases with the increase of rpm.

yeah OJ it used to run around 600 even with a/c and it never set off the "dummy" lights.i do need to change the plugs in it.the jump or jerk could be but i didn't see a change in the rpms when it did it. i know it wouldn't but i am just asking to confirm that the battery wouldn't have anything to do with it cuz i need to change the battery in it too before winter comes since it was going bad?

The reason I suggested the codes is because the TPS and IAC can affect the idle speed. Try cleaning the throttle body with cleaner. My daughter's 99 V6 was acting up the same way and it worked.

Oopse, and no, the battery would not cause the problem if just old and worn out.

Throttle body cleaner only. Sold at auto parts stores. Read directions carefully and completely.
