Camshaft and crankshaft timing how to. Ford Explorer 2006 4.0 engine

This is something you may not want to get into. This engine has 4 timing chains. 1 from crankshaft to balancer, 1 from crankshaft to jack shaft which is the center shaft, 1 from jackshaft to driver side camshaft and 1 more from jack shaft to passenger side camshaft. There's no marks on camshafts like the older engines therefore you have to use a special tool. I bought it from Amazon for like $175. here is the tool part number if you decide to tackle it but if it's not done correctly, you'll bend the head valves... Btw if you decide to do it, the passenger side has to be done with engine out of the vehicle since it's on the rear of the engine. Good luck
Yup, if you change all the chains the engine has to come out.
