Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Yesterday on my way home for lunch wrench light came on and my Explorer down shifted funny with a bump when I would slow down at stop signs. After lunch light was off and no shifting problems. On my way home after work wrench light came on and down shift bump happened again when I would slow down. This morning no light and no shift problems. What could this be?

Do you change your oil ??? Why not change the transmission fluid and filter ??? The transmission fluid & filter should be at around 60,000 miles or keep neglecting it and save the 400 dollars ( which amounts to 3 transmission fluid & filter changes ) and put it towards the 2400 dollars for a tranny rebuild Penny wise Pound foolish which happens to be English Currency
I am having same exact issue with mine have you found out the problem ??? Please let me know 7249741596
Thanks, olds403, but I have the same vehicle, and the Ford company made this transmission without a transmission fluid dipstick. To add transmission fluid you must have a special adapter nozzle and go through a process where you add fluid, start the vehicle, and let the fluid heat up to 80 to 120 degrees, let it run out until it begins to drizzle slowly, then that is the fill point. Of course, this is usually done with the vehicle on a lift. My vehicle only has the light when conditions are wet so I think it's being caused by an electrical short.
