Difficulty filling with fuel

Asked by drof05 Jan 19, 2012 at 06:35 PM about the 2005 Ford Five Hundred Limited AWD

Question type: General

It takes forever to fill with gas.  The fuel nozzle always kicks off before it is full.  We try filling fast or slow, also tried different gas stations, same results.  We have to fill it manually, resetting the nozzle everytime it clicks off.

You have a faulty evap vent control valve. take to your local Ford/Lincoln dealer. You should have service engine light on reading code small/gross evap leak. When this malfunctions it sticks closed or open.. in your case closed. It pressurizes and depressurizes your emissions system. Whn it keeps it pressured your fuel filler neck cannot expel the vapors from the fuel and causes fuel to back up and pump to shut off. The average Nissan costs around 200 to fix this yours should be around the same. Mike.. Nissan asst service manager.
