Power Steering Problem

Asked by DBlandino Aug 16, 2011 at 03:40 AM about the 2006 Ford Five Hundred SEL AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Anyone have their p.s. rack-and-pinion and/or pump go out? Mine (both), did at 25K!
Then, $1100.00 and a year later more similar symptoms of excessive strain noise on hard turns. It turned out to be that the fluid level dropped somehow. No visable drips anywhere. Possibly an internal leak on a new rack?

Thanks. Midas was nice enough to do a complementary flush. They said there were no shavings in the fluid. It's a mystery as to where the fluid went. I heard about Lucas products and got their P.S. Stop Leak. I added some but intend to just whatch the level and add more if needed.
