2002 ford taurus transmission

Asked by LJHMAK03 May 12, 2017 at 02:46 PM about the 2002 Ford Taurus LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I put a engine and a transmission from a 2001 ford
taurus into a 2002 ford taurus because everyone I
talked to said it would work. My issue is the
transaxle light is on. I took it to a transmission
shop and they told me the computer isn't
programmed for that transmission. Is there a way
to program the computer to recognize this
transmission? Do I need to find a 2001 computer?
Help please!!!

I would ask the transmission shop if a reflash of your ECU would fix things or if some other measure would fix the problem. Your post should be a warning to all the people here who want to swap engines and transmissions.
