How do I unstick a frozen tensioner?

Asked by PATTROYKA Jul 31, 2021 at 03:52 PM about the 2002 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Trying to replace a dead alternator, but the tensioner seems to be frozen in
place,  Even with 2 people pulling on the wrench, the tensioner has no give.
Put WD 40 on, waited an hour, nothing.  Now what?  It broke down in a store
parking lot.

Buy a new one if the old one is shot. Are you pulling in the wrong direction?

Are you sure you're working on the tensioner? There's an idler pulley too that is stationary. Hope that helps! Jim
