Check charging system and battery light on

Asked by Wes Jul 26, 2017 at 10:00 PM about the 2004 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 04 taurus  se with the ohv engine. Keeps throwing the
check charging system and the battery light. The battery is
not charging.  I replaced the alternator twice. I replaced the
battery. I check the alternator fuse which was good. As well
as fuse 26 in the under hood block it was intact.  I also
checked for a bad engine to body ground. I made one and
moved it to several place with no effect. I also tried to run
the car off the alternator by disconnecting the battery while
it was running and the car turned off every time. The
alternator passed three  test on the test machine. It just
keeps dying. Idk what else to try or what it could be. I am
gonna take to a shop but any ideas or solutions would be
helpful thanks

Tennishoes, do you know if the 1998 Taurus has a "smart charging" system as well? Or is this one like the old days? On at all times? Thanks!

Thank you. Just wanted to make sure. I think the wire from the ignition switch is bad and am thinking of just running a new conductor in its place. At this point, the car is almost 20 years old with 156k miles...... Not looking to win any car shows! Just continue getting from a to b!

I jyst wanted to be sure the alternator is supposed to have a constant voltage on both wires (one at all times and the other with the key in the on position) before I look into it further. Had to ask about the pcm. Hopefully I'll get some time today to mess around with it and see what I can find!

What to check next, or before...PMC, or the ECU? I have a 2004 Ford Taurus SES DOHC. Already replaced the Battery, Starter, and Alternator.

All of the above are things you need to check before diving into the control systems. Ford does not have as much of a problem with the ECM compared to Chrysler but sometimes they do fail.

Maybe check the contact point perhaps I feel, so I will. Still got the battery light, abs, to resolve. Thanks, G A.
