Transmission swap
Asked by Rodsanewman Jul 24, 2011 at 09:49 AM about the 1992 Ford Mustang LX Coupe RWD
Question type: Car Customization
I have an 89 mustang with a 5 speed
manual tranny and also have a 92 mustang
coupe with a bad AOD auto tranny.
Wondered if this would be a fairly easy bolt
up swap putting the manual in place of the
auto?

Wouldn't be very difficult. I'm not sure, you might have to cut the firewall if they didn't do it preemptively at manufacture. otherwise its just a matter of swapping flywheels/clutch and mounting the clutch pedal and cable.
ya doing the clutch pedal thing is a PTA, but you might also have to change the length of your drive shaft.
nothing easy about this job.it has the hydrolic clutch which you will have to deal with.
Mustangs don't have hydraulic clutches.
Why you would even post about a hydraulic clutch is beyond me. You claim you know these cars. This is a post that should be stickied. I hope he can get the plantery gears jupiter and uranus rings aligned to install that hydraulic clutch.. you know?
HAY,what is your problem, all straight drive vehicles have a hydro clutch.the clutch rod operated trannys went away years ago.you need to do some homework or at least learn about things you post.and stop downing other plps opinions.I have seen your kind before, think you know all about vehicle mechanics how they work.you my friend seem like the trouble maker here.after researching you,you stay out of my post,Ill stay out of yours,GOD help the plps questions you answer,we will get along just fine.
The fox has a cable driven clutch, as does every manual mustang produced through 2004. He could buy a conversion kit from LRS if he wanted a hydraulic clutch. Hell, look at the under hood pic of my mustang it has an aftermarket Steeda clutch cable adjuster on it. So now, who thinks they know all about vehicle mechanics?
I have a 1973 mustang body with no Trans or engine what newer engines can fit like 03 and up 5.0
I have a 94 5.0 ho automatic and am charging it to a 5 speed right now it's not that hard if you know what you are doing
This is actually very easy for the normal Gearhead / mechanic the only thing that takes time is the pedals other than that it's all plug and play for a Foxbody and yes you can use the same drive shaft I have done at least 7 swaps for friends and family basically what's needed transmission a new crossmember clutch pedal clutch cable throw out bearing pilot bearing clutch Fork flywheel pressure plate and disc , shifter and a lot of bolts and nuts
