Why is my car idling too fast

Asked by Guru9429W8 Sep 21, 2020 at 04:34 PM about the 1992 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I get in my car to start it up it
revs up to 3000 RPM's by itself. It's not
idling on its own without revving up
and I have to turn the car off because
stepping on the gas pedal doesn't
correct it. I replaced the throttle
position sensor and didn't help anyone
else have any idea. It's a 1992 Ford
Mustang 5.o

You have to periodically clean the ICS and throttle body with throttle body cleaner. Check online on how to do it, it gets full of carbon over time.
