92 Ford Ranger won't start.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
A single click from the starter relay is all I'm getting. Battery is charged. I tried
jumping across post on the starter relay with the key on and clutch held
in...nothing.

Two voltage circuits at the starter motor. One comes from battery, hot all the time. The other goes hot when relay is energized. The starter motor is grounded through engine block. You can use test light to check voltage at those two terminals. Check ground, also. You could remove starter motor, lay it on the ground, hook up jumper cables properly from battery to starter motor, at the least it should kick out drive gear and spin.
Just wanted to add, testing at starter motor on the vehicle, make sure tranny is out of gear and parking brake is set. You don't want vehicle to move with you under it.

Thank you for your reply. Turns out it was a loose wire in my repaired positive battery cable. :-/
