Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2001 pt cruiser just yesterday i was driving
and my check engine light came on. I kept driving it
and didnt see any problem with the car. I did the
whole ignition thing so it can give me the error
codes, i got a p 0551 code which i believ it is power
steering. But car drives fine, can it be just the bad
sensor? Or the actuall pump thats goign out
slowly? I also noticed today in the mornint at cold
start the rpm went a little higher than usual. Slowly
came down. Oncd i tapped the gas it gave me a
higher than usual rev. Then went down slowly. The
other code is p1684 something about the battery.
Any ideas on what would be the easiest fix?

Of course, always make sure your power steering fluid is full, but the o551 code means that the power steering pressure sensor is bad, or the wiring may be disconnected, dirty connection, or a short somewhere. the 1684 code means your battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts of the vehicle. if this is not the case, check and clean all battery connections, especially the ground. it would also not hurt to have your battery load tested. a weak battery can cause weird check engine lights.
