Transmission

Asked by GuruWHFSB May 08, 2018 at 08:05 PM about the 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 PT Cruiser. I had the
transmission rebuilt about 60,000
miles ago. And has a total of 200,000
miles on it but only 60,000 on the
rebuild. I pulled into a parking spot
recently shut the engine off when
inside for 15 minutes came back out
started the car up and now it won't
move. It does sound like it's going into
gear because you can hear the
transmission make the sounds and you
can hear the difference in the sound of
the engine / transmission when I
switch gears. But the car itself will not
move forward or reverse. When you put
it in gear and give it gas it even sounds
like it's going in gear, but it's almost like
the parking brake is said or like I'm
holding the brakes trying to move the
car at the same time. When I put the
car into neutral you can hear the sound
of the engine change and it rev up a
little bit, but the car still will not move,
you can't even push it by hand. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to
what this might be? Is there a brake
switch on the car that if it goes out that
will not allow the car to move? My
other question would be that I have a
2002 PT Cruiser for parts, would the
transmission out of the 2002 work for
my 2003 PT Cruiser? They are both 2.4
liter engines.

I don't think it's your transmission, I might be wrong but I think your brake calipers or your brake master cylinder's locked up.

WOW, .... the OP ask a legitimate question and those are the two answers given. .... no doubt by this time the OP has figured out that it was the transmission and not the brake calipers locked up and the broken transmission probably was caused by the wrong transmission fluid being used or the transmission cooler/radiator was clogged and wasn't keeping the transmission cool hence it overheated and burnt up
