Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 PT Cruiser. I can turn it on and it has full power but when I go to
start it nothing happens. The gauges move but there is no click or turn over. I
think it is the starter but my dad thinks differently. I am not able to start it and
take it to a shop.. HELP!!

First try putting vehicle in neutral and try to start if that does not work

Have some one try to start vehicle and tap on starter with a hammer at the same time this works sometimes but not all way but it may help get you started to take to shop.

I have tried putting it in neutral and starting it. The starter is in a weird spot that its hard to get to it with a hammer. :-(

The PT cruiser key has a chip inside that communicates with the on board computer. If the chip is /has failed, it won't communicate and so won't start. I don't know if that also would allow you to have "power" to the various accessories or not, though. If you have a 2nd, less- used key, try that one to see if that works. This mechanic's trick bought me 2 more years with my 2006. Good luck. Hope it's not the computer itself - that gets pricey.
