pt cruiser overheating

I have a 2004 pt cruiser, new thermostat, new radiator, fan runs, relays and fuses are good, i used a spill proof funnel when filling the cooling system but it is still over heating, worse off when idle but not as bad when driving. the fan is not coming on, i know the fan works, i hotwired it and it works. i assume its a sensor but i dont know where inside the cooling system i can find the sensor to test it. any advice? not trying to pay 120$ to have a quick diagnosis done.

PT Cruisers have a special bleed procedure to get air out of the cooling system. Did you do it?

Yes I was able to bleed the air out of the system, and both of the relays work, have good resistance as well fuses are still good, just won't turn the fans on

Are you sure that both fan speeds work? I notice that the fans high speed kicks in when engine reaches approx. 204F which should be half way up the temp gauge. I have spent lots of time bleeding the system. The best method I have found is warming the car up with the cap off and when the coolant starts to circulate while thermostat is opening, put the cap on loosely. (Carefully) close the cap fully when you have no air or steam coming out. Just coolant. To answer the question of the temp sensor placement. It is on the passenger side of the engine kind of on the under side of the thermostat housing. The temp sensor communication with the ECM will tell the fans to kick on when it reaches the desired temp to ensure the best possible efficiency in the engine for combustion.
