The Chrysler 2.4L HO engine can deal with high HP in its OEM form. The only difference between it and the Dodge Neon SRT4 engine is the intake manifold. They're otherwise identical. The first weak spot for power above 400hp on the 2.4L are the conn-rod bolts and head bolts. Replace them for durability, or step up and replace the rotating assemblies sans crank. Strap the crank and drop the counterbalance shaft assembly if you intend to generate over 450hp, and you'll need a fuel pump capable of feeding the engine fast enough. Add the larger 52mm throttle body (if MTX), hard charge pipes, 3" O2 housing with matching downpipe, and a nominal 2.5" exhaust system. Get the Stage 1 PCM, and rebuild the TD04 turbo with premium parts and a billet compressor wheel. If ATX, stay out of 4th when boosting. Replace the upper/lower torque struts with solid filled to eliminate wheel hop. Add meth/water injection for knock elimination, and you'll have a very streetable daily driver that'll smoke many unsuspecting BMW, AMG, and Lexus drivers. The simple fact is, Darrell Cox Racing has built and raced the 2.4L to 1500hp, and I know many who are easily running 400-650hp.

Forgive me for not knowing but does a 2005 PT Cruiser Touring 2.4 Turbo have same engine as the 2.4 Turbo High Output also made same year? I have 1st version Convertible now and found 2nd 2005 convertible with H/O motor in it for sale? Are they same or different? Thanks a million!
