Air Conditioner not blowing as hard as it should.

Asked by Dwayne2004 May 03, 2012 at 06:15 PM about the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 PT Cruiser which I just had a new blower motor installed in for the air conditioner system.  The blower was not putting out as much airflow as normal so I took it into my mechanic.  He checked to make sure there was no blockage or other problems and the final diagnosis was the need for a new blower motor.  However I just picked up the car and the new blower motor is still not blowing as hard as it should.  I know that when the fan is on high speed I am able to feel the air blowing on my face.  Now I can just barely feel the air on high speed.  Is there something else my mechanic (whom I trust) might have missed?  Summer is nearly here and I would like to be cool and comfortable.

Maybe the new blower is just defective and not able to spin as fast as it should.

Did You make sure the cabin filter is not blocked with dirt? It is under the cowling at the bottom of the windshield.

Hi Dwayne, I know this was a long time ago. Did you ever figure out what was wrong. My PT is doing the same thing . Tried 3 different blower motors. Changed out the resistor and cabin filter. Still blowing weak .

Just in case anyone else has this problem , I wanted to update . My issue was as follows . 2006 PT Cruiser Turbo . Blower motor was going out so I replaced it . After I installed the new one, I can tell the air was barely coming out . I ended up taking back the Motor and replacing for an another one . Same thing was happening . Started looking it up online and seen the resistor might be the culprit so I changed it out . Nothing was working . I finally took it to a shop after a couple said they couldn’t help me . The shop found out that the motor plug wiring was backwards . The fan was blowing in reverse the whole time . Had to come from the manufacturer that way because I tried two motors with the same result . Hope this helps someone out there because I know it has to be happening if the manufacturer screwed this up .
