Timing belt?

Asked by GuruM3XV May 18, 2017 at 08:35 PM about the 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Thank you Brian, my nephew said he received a p0340 code which stated cam shaft sensor, when we replaced it, the car will crank but not turn over, is there a test you know of that can be done to determine if it is a timing belt problem?

Make sure it is in time, remove a timing belt cover and visually examine it. Cams and gears can cause this issue also. Don't rule out rounded camshafts or worn cam gears.

The cam marks line up in the middle (3 o'clock for exhaust cam and 9 o'clock for intake cam.) However, the crank mark may be lined up but 180 degrees out. Cylinder number one must be on top dead center with crank mark lined up (arrows)
