the performance chips out for gas engines are nothing like the ones for diesel engines. just about all of the gas engine ones are just a resistor that goes into your your MAP, or MAF sensor. its not going to do any thing other than lower your gas mileage.
Dan, thanks for the replies. I inherited a 99 as a settlement in a failed business deal. The reason I asked about the thermostat is when the engine is fully heated up the oil light comes on when I stop in gear. If I give it about 50 more rpms it'll stop. I was thinking if I could get it to run cooler and therefore more viscous oil, it might help. I found out the idle is computer determined so I was just trying anything. The reason I asked about the chip is because some of them address shift points. My caravan will not shift into high gear until 45 mph. At that time, rpms drop to 1500. Up to 45mph it runs at 2000 rpm-- the same rpms as 60mph! Most of my driving is in town -under 40mph. That doesn't seem right or economical. thanks again for your responses.
how many milesdoes the van have on it? its very possible that you may have a bad engine oil pump. your shifting issues sound fluid related though id look at doing a fluid and filter change, if your trying to change transmission shift points what you really want is a tuner, all chips do is "increase hp" which on gas engines for the most part thats false. but if you could find a tuner from a reputable place like hypertec or bullydog or some thing you may notice an increase
thanks again Dan, 226,000 miles with a new transmission about 3k ago
the engines are a little different but i had a 96 ram, it didnt have an oil light but it had a gauge, and at idle id have very low oil pressure almost at 0, i replaced the oil pump and it fixed the problem

I suggest you leave the car alone.was not meant to have a chip.you might throw the whole car out of whack
