Tranny Oil Pan Leak (46 Trans)

Asked by kipdon Dec 01, 2016 at 04:21 PM about the 1999 Dodge RAM Van 2500 Maxi Extended Cargo RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Im Baffled!! Changed my tranny filter and gasket. Not once, Not twice, Now
Im on the THIRD gasket for the oil pan and it STILL is leaking. Im livid.
(note: this tranny NEVER leaked a drop of oil before)

The 3rd time I put a thin coat of gasket sealer/maker on the new gasket too.
Made sure the joining surface were "ultra clean" as well. (Grrrrr) Seems to
be leaking from the front side, near where the dipstick enters the body but
even that looks sealed well.

Any of you got some tricks for this? Anyone had a similar issue? I mean,
even a 10 yrs old should have done this job successfully -right? Im about to
buy a new oil pan (seems overpriced at 60 bux as well)

I think that is about the solution I would have gone with too, after replacing a gasket twice and still getting a leak. Trans pans do deform around the bolt holes, especially if they've been over-tightened in the past.
