seat belt not working good and is making noise

i have a 91 ford tempo and the seat belt on the drivers side is not moving forward when you get out of the car. the seal belt sign is flashing and now the motor is making
noise.  is the motor going out or is something wrong with the track? and where do i find
a replacement?

Somthing has ruined the unit, buy a used one from pickNpull...they are cheap...not worth trying to do surgery with tools and getting all aggravated over....please, unless you are using the belt to hold you in place while driving there is no need...a careful driver does not cause his passengers to go for grabby handles (or the bottom of the seat with the new Mustang {'cause there ain't none -builders were to cheap to supply on what you'll find on EVERY Toyota}...so sensible driving my friend until you can get to a serv-yourself car place and pull the donor car all apart, pocket the fasteners and learn how this thing all goes together, so you can change yours with that experience under your belt.~

My '93 has done the same thing. the least expensive fix is to access the motor and run the belt all the way back and disconnect the motor. With the belt in that position, you should be safe. It's over $200 for the belt and motor assembly from the dealer. A used assembly is cheaper but you run the risk of getting another bad one because you can rarely test components like that at the wrecking yard.

...I guess push the plastic cover up on the belt and examine the gummy bears that are in the mechanism...remove them lubricate with tri-flow and re-assemble...It can't be that hard to put it back right again...slowly take it apart and learn "seatbelt brain surgery"~

GAWD! judge _roy - I did 80% of my Ford Training on a Tempo. Ya know what you get when you buy a Tempo? 5 things - 4 tires and an oil leak! :)~ But the darned things start every time! the 3.0L version was kick-butt except for the torque-steer.

@Tracy---never not once underestimated your knowledge or ability...it's just the poor sod eric bergman who has to live with this....recommend a Toyota...they are the best.

I was saying GAWD to all the money I made off of those POS Pinto replacements! Goose test - KOER self test. I still have an old EEC IV tester with a Mazda adapter somewhere! Let's see...the Escort would have read something like 20-10-11 if everything passed and you stomped the throttle at "10". The thing I miss the most on these old ford systems was the "Wiggle Test". After all the codes displayed on a KOEO test, yu would goose the throttle to activate all the actuators and wiggle, tap or shake sensors and wiring harnesses to see if they caused the tester to Beep. Ohhhh the old days!
