Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ticking noise at start-up. Sounds like valve noise, but goes away when warmed up. Checked oil level which was fine.

The most likely cause would be an exhaust leak. Exhaust leaks sound just like a bad lifter,and usually get quiet after engine warms up and everything expands. Check exhaust donuts.

I have the same problem with my 2004 Envoy XL. Did you find out what the problem was?

I have the same problem with my 2002 envoy. It knocks hard at start up but gets quiet as it warms up. I was told it was a rod knock. Does anyone know for sure what it could be?? I have been keeping oil changes and I changed coil packs and spark plugs.
