Check battery connections. They must be clean and tight. Also check the negative battery connections on the frame and motor. Have battery and alternator tested. Sounds like your alternator might be going bad.

i had the truck cranked and running and took the positive wire off battery would that mean my alternator is good?

Yes and no. If it's starting to go bad it can cause the lights to dim when you let off the gas. Should be putting out 14+ volts. If it's only putting out 12 or so that will keep it running but not carry the load of the lights ect.
