Air conditioner

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Put new compressor and drier and tube pulled a
vacuum for a hour started putting freon in and
started popping freon out a little tube on the
manifold on the back of compressor and
compressor locked up. Any ideas what's wrong
would be great.

That is what they call a pop valve it is letting you know there is two much freon in the system usually it just keeps releasing freon until the right amount of freon is in the system and the popping would stop. Now I do not know why the compressor locked up but you should try removing some of the freon that is in the system or remove all of it and start over again. Hopefully the compressor will start working again.

Firebird thanks for the info but I didn't have a pound of freon in it yet when it started popping off. It calls for 2 pounds.

Well sounds like you got hold of a bad new compressor.

That's what I was thinking firebird and jamnblues I have a recovery machine so when it started popping I sucked all the r-12 out. At 90 bucks a pound I didn't want to waste it

Why don't you just convert your vehicles R12 system to R134a they sale the conversion kits in most part stores.

I like the old freon better to me it's colder and I have a jug of it on hand.
