By a rolling chassis or a whole truck with the drivetrain you are looking for that would be the one to start with
Like I said I have a 1995 gmc 1500 with a 5.7 in it but it's 2x4
The frame is different due to the front suspension so like the first guy said buy a rolling chassis or a different truck

4X4 add-on parts or a 1995 GM 4X4 doner truck & or chassis will be so expensive (but possible) with an unlimited budget. You will need everything, shifters & linkage, transfere case, dirvelines, matching front differential, springs & mounts, shocks, brakes, etc. etc. etc. Better to sell yours & buy what you want,
Look change yor rear end too a possy track 4,3get the HD turbo 400 4×4 and it will be a one piece steal drive shaft it will go into the transmission 4×4 reciever should be around 5 or 5 3/4 or so measure after u install tranny and rear good luck have fun
This iis what u need *COPY PASTE* https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk? sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiUypDZsrLTAhWBGIEKHfC0Ce0YABATGgJ5dw& ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESEeD27YEZbm5FV5JXNI5- JRY5&sig=AOD64_1wuDYHByM4gy5xtxYOnGCRNSzheQ&ctype=5& q=&ved=0ahUKEwj3hIvZsrLTAhXLSiYKHSY3AqcQwg8IHw&adurl=

Tarver001 this is old thread but what did you end up doing? I bought two trucks cheap one is 96 extended cab short box 2x4 other is single cab short box 4x4. I bought cheap planning to make the extended cab a 4x4 for my personal truck turn single cab into 2x4 and sell it. Someone here said 2x4 frame different than 4x4 is that true? Looked like easy deal but then I read this thread. Advise appreciated.
