GMC 95 1500 Sierra brakes. Sound of air is heard when applying brakes?

Asked by eddieyo Jan 16, 2014 at 09:50 PM about the 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 SL Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We had this truck for a long time still in good condition. Just recently we bleed the brake
to try to get the air out the lines but still when we apply the brake when the truck is on, it
will make a loud air sound and the brakes will be harder to push but the truck will stop. an
the brake pedal will go down slowly but not all the way. is it the air in the brakes or the
brake booster. That is what someone had mentioned.

Take the vacuum hose off - which takes the power booster out of use - the brakes should stay hard and makes it hard to stop the vehicle - which indicates that the booster is bad.
