Towing

Asked by Karnel1993 May 01, 2018 at 11:34 AM about the 1996 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 SLE Extended Cab Stepside SB

Question type: General

I have a 96 gmc sierra extended cab. I just put a new motor
(5.7 vortec) in the truck. In that process I took out the oil
cooler due to extreme leaking and limited funds. I ran into a
lot of unexpected expensive problems and the oil cooler is
something I could do without. I also didnt plan on towing
anything heavier than a small trailer with a 4 wheeler. Now
I'm thinking of towing a small camper (5,000 lbs). I know
truck can tow 6,500 but what about without the oil cooler

I assume your are talking about the transmission cooler? If it were my truck I would wait until I installed a new or used one.

The transmission cooler wasn't removed and is in good working condition. The oil cooler was removed. It had a crack in the adapter and the hoses leaked where they hooked into the adapter.
