what would make a 96 GMC not shift correctly

the truck was shifting fine. Was going to work and motor stared to rev up. i let off the gas it shifted. I stopped killed the motor took off again and for the tranny to shift had to let off the throttle and it would shift.

check the transmission fluid...for leakage at the radiator connection...examine the transmission mounts with a floorjack as these can create geometry problems for the linkage~ https://www.google.com/#q=96+GMC+transmission+mounts&tbm=shop

the tranny fluid level is full I could not find a leak. and the mount looked to be good

do these have a vacuum modulator on the shift control?...check to see if any vacuum connections to the transmission are still there~

no sir done checked to see if maybe it had vaccum but it does not it has apug at the tail shaft and then one behind the shift cable.
