97 gmc sierra tries to die

Asked by Jnichvegas Mar 17, 2018 at 01:44 PM about the 1997 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 SL Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 97 gmc sierra 1500 that stalls out on
occasion. When you first get in it starts fine and
drives fine. If we park somewhere and it sits for 30
minutes or so then take off it acts like it wants to
die. Let off the gas and then back on and it kicks
back in fine. Have replaced the spark plugs, wires,
distributor, mass air flow, cam sensor so far with
no change. Fuel pump has been checked and is
good.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

it could be something to do with compression in your engine;check your book to see the recommended compression rating for your pistons and if it below that there your problem. But if that is all fine it could be something related to a gasket leaking something in aka antifreeze or something like that:check your oil if it comes out like watery one of your gaskets has a hole or crack in it.i had a van with kind of the same issue except it would stutter to get going;turns out it had a blown head gasket.
