Starting problem in damp weather

A lot of things can cause this but if it is because of moisture, sounds like ignition, and a tune-up would be in order. Another thing would be fuel pressure, it should be 56 to 63 lbs at the schrader valve.

Hi Rowefast, Thank you for your suggestion. When I tried to start the truck the next day, it started first try, and runs smoothly. Do you have a suggestion as to where I can apply Di-electric gel to prevent moisture problems?

Well ya but it shouldn't have problems when it is damp out. I like doing this on new ignition parts to be installed. Is this a 4.3L?

Same here. Yes it is a 4.3L.Thank you for your help As the truck is new to me, I do not know how to get at the ignition parts. My previous truck (A 1983 Chevy, with a 350 CI) had it all in the open, and easy to get at. Do you know where I can get a shop manual?

Ya if you plan on working on it you are going to need the shop manual. If you search on line you can find them. The 4.3L Vortec engine when they came out had a poor design in the fuel delivery system. Thats why I mentioned checking the fuel pressure in the beginning. The fuel regulators, spider fuel lines, and injectors under the plenum get to be leaky. They recommend replacing these items as a unit as it is redesigned. You can replace what is necessary at the time but within 6 months your right back in there again. Its not that hard of a job to do, just expensive.
