swapped a bad 1997 4.3L engine for a good 1997 4.3L blazer engine. It started about 16 times now nothing and the guages go wild. Thoughts?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced the starter solenoid, tapped starter and still wont crank.
Gauges go wild and I am thinking a ground problem somewhere. Are there two grounds? One from the starter and one from the block?

The starter is grounded to the engine block since it is bolted up to it. The grounds should be routed so the battery, engine, engine to the firewall all have a circuit to the frame.

I looked at the grounds and they look OK. the batter terminals are also good, clean and tight. The deal is...why are the gauges going crazy when I try to start it?

I had this when I changed my engine, 95 Chevy Silverado, it was a bad ground running too the engine & frame, and from the engine to the firewall. Even though everything was hooked up, and cleaned before hand, once I went over everything, then my gauges settled down.

I'll check the ground to the frame tomorrow. The up north rust from the salt may have screwed up the ground bolt on the frame.

Ahaa. I wish I were born up your way my friend. Life would be much easier in a good way.

Maybe we will get up your way again some day soon. The pleasure is all mine. Thanks again Rowefast. Mark
