Newer engine swap!

Asked by Leonce Jul 06, 2018 at 08:30 PM about the 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Extended Cab Stepside SB

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I have a 2000 GMC sierra 4x4 with a 5.3 with a cold air package and
118.000 miles. I would like to upgrade the truck to a new more powerful 6
Liter engine. I pull a 27 foot camp trailer and need a little more torque, I'm
afraid of over working the 5.3! I have the trans flushed regular and oil filter
changed regular ever since buying the truck new, it has 3.73 gears, will the
conversion work, I'll buy a new trans if needs be! Cheaper than a new one by
about $45.000!

I just researched it myself out of curiosity and found a pretty legit sounding post(s) by Papi Chino on the GM Truck Club, i think you're going to like the answer! Lol. https://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/threads/swa p-out-the-5-3-for-6-0.14818/

I see that there is no use in swapping the 5.3 for 6.0!

The 5.3 is hard to over work. I pull 20 foot flat beds with heavy loads no problem. And it’s running on 325,000 miles. Regularly check fluids, use tow haul, and you can always upgrade parts for extra performance. But the 5.3 is a very reliable motor for pulling loads.
